  • What is a Minecraft Server?

    A Minecraft server is like a virtual playground where students can join to play Minecraft together. It's an online space where the game's world is stored and runs.

    Purpose in Classroom:

    In a classroom, a Minecraft server allows all students to be in the same Minecraft world at the same time. This enables collaborative building and learning activities.

    Setting Up:

    The teacher or IT staff sets up the server. This involves choosing the right server software, setting it up on a computer, and ensuring it's accessible to students in the classroom.

    Joining the Server:

    Students join the server by connecting to it through their Minecraft game. They will need the server's address, which the teacher provides.

    Collaborative Building:

    Once connected, students can see each other's characters in the game. They can work together to build parts of the city, talk about different careers related to their buildings, and explore the virtual world they create.

    Safety and Management:

    Licensing & Installation
    The Education Edition can easily be installed on multiple devices in a school, making it accessible for classrooms. Schools may use their IT infrastructure to deploy the game on school-owned devices. For fleets of laptops/devices, your school IT admin can organise the purchase and download of the software.

    Cost - There may be a cost associated however with an Office 365 subscriptions, the costs may be reduced or inapplicable. Consult your school IT provider more more information.
